Welcome

Welcome to the Birchanger C of E Primary School website

We are a small rural church school with 121 children. Our school community is diverse and comes from our village and the surrounding area.  We are proud of our ethos where every child is known to us.

As a church school we provide a school life where the pursuit of excellence sits alongside, ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10).

'Life in all its fullness' means

The fullness of life that Christ came to open up our access to. It is a diverse, flourishing, exuberant life in which we are ever increasingly aware and appreciative of the beauty and joy and magical fullness of any given moment.

Our school vision reflects our Christian values .  The school's values and British values are very important to us and they are threaded through school life. Our vision has been drawn up by the children, staff and governing body and it says :

‘We are committed to the pursuit of excellence in all we do- in our work, play and relationships with each other. Everything we do is built on the Christian values of Love, Care, Courage and Truth.’

Our broad and balanced curriculum is underpinned by our values, tenacity for learning and the NHS 5 ways to wellbeing and we support our curriculum with a range of enrichment activities. This includes access to our nature garden and local Forest School provision. We also invite visitors to our school to enhance the curriculum and the children make trips to areas of interest. Every year our older children go on a residential trip to experience life and learning outside our school.

We encourage our children to take on leadership roles to support others. This includes being a member of our School council, Worship Council or Eco Council. It also includes being one of our Antibullying ambassadors or a member of the Young Leaders. Each year we pair our oldest and youngest children together and the strong friendships that are formed reflect the values that we hold.

We believe that our vision, values and curriculum enables our children to become happy, healthy, life-long learners who take an active role in the development of our modern society.

We are very proud of our school and we welcome anyone who would like to visit us. We hope that our website gives you a flavour of our school and our welcoming and positive ethos.
